The man who drowned Saturday on a Texas river was swept from the channel and into the ocean, authorities said.
Houston-area resident William Scott, 46, was swept up in the currents from the Ship Channel, according to Houston-based KHOU-TV.
He was later pronounced dead.
The cause of his death is under investigation.
Houston police Capt. Ron Jones told KHOU that Scott had been walking with friends on Saturday when they came across a woman on the water.
She was walking down the channel, and then she heard a loud noise and she said, “Oh my God!” and turned around and saw the man.
They ran out of the water and he was just floating.
He said he went back in to find Scott and they got into a fight.
“She threw the water at him,” Jones said.
“He hit her with the water, and she pulled him under the water.”
Scott’s death is the second reported on Sunday in the Houston area.
A 19-year-old woman drowned Saturday in the river.
Authorities said they believe the woman may have been trying to save her own life.
