The federal government says it is taking steps to make it easier for people to access freight in the port of Darwin.
In a statement, Transport Minister Stephen Conroy said the Government was moving towards introducing a new tariff for the Port of Darwin, but was not yet sure what it would look like.
“This will help the Port and other key industries to continue to attract and retain the best talent in Australia,” he said.
“We are also committed to supporting the Port to improve its business operations and make sure that we have the right workforce in place to support the Port’s growth and success.”
He said the new tariff would help the Government meet its commitment to boost the Port by “up to $2.4 billion a year”.
The new tariff is expected to be introduced this year.
