New Dominion freight rail line, old dominion, freight lines move closer to Tacoma

NEW DELAWARE (AP) — New Dominion is building a freight line from its freight terminal in Tacoma to the port in Bremerton, and it plans to open a new terminal in Brevard County.

The Tacoma-based state Department of Transportation and Utilities says it’s building a new line from the Tacoma-Bremerton International Airport terminal to a freight terminal on Interstate 5 north of Tacoma.

New Dominion hopes to open the new terminal by early 2018.

It will be called the Port of Brevard and be part of the port’s new terminal project.

The line will include a passenger car, truck, truck cargo and light truck terminals, the agency says.

New Dominion says it is using the new port to store and transport cargo to and from Brevard, as well as to deliver goods to the ports of Portland, Ore., and Wilmington, Del.

New England railroads have used the port for years to ship goods to markets around the world, including Seattle.

The state has said that it plans on buying railcars to haul cargo to the airport, and plans to sell freight to Tacoma.
